Standard Bernedoodles are the largest of the Bernedoodles. They are the result of breeding a Bernese Mountain Dog to a Standard Poodle. Depending on the size and weight of the sire and dam, Standard Bernedoodles can range in weight from 55 pounds to over 100 pounds. At Blackbriar, we strive to breed Standards that are balanced and proportional for their size, avoiding any extremes. We do not intentionally try to breed extremely large dogs, even though there is aways a demand for them. Standards typically have the heavier, denser boning of the Bernese, with full Bernese-style muzzles and broad heads. Their coats are non-shedding with a soft, wavy texture. They are generally extremely calm and tolerant dogs, very good with children and other animals, with a laid-back, socially open character. They have an easy athleticism and can play and keep up with you all day, but like most Bernedoodles, they are happiest at your feet. These are the "Gentle Giants" of Bernedoodles.

Mini Bernedoodles are the most popular of Bernedoodle sizes, and for very good reasons. They are medium sized, beautiful, intelligent and fun loving dogs that are highly trainable, very companionable and friendly - and they take up less room in the car!  They are usually the offspring of a Bernese Mountain Dog (80+ pounds) and a Miniature Poodle (12-15 pounds,)or Medium Poodle (25-35 pounds) resulting in puppies that will weigh 25-40 pounds, with some pups reaching the 50 pound mark - usually one of the boys, but not always.  The pups will have a  wavy, non-shedding F1 coat.  Mini Bernedoodles are a great option for people who love the look and personality of a Bernedoodle but who don't want (or can't have) the full sized version! Mini Bernedoodles can also be produced by selectively breeding smaller dogs over several generations, sometimes using a medium or "moyen" sized poodle in the initial cross instead of a miniature poodle. 

Micro or Petite Bernedoodles are the smallest of the Bernedoodle sizes, with adult dogs ranging from under 20 pounds to about 30 pounds on the larger end. They are super intelligent, willingly trained and wonderful, happy companion animals. They are quite robust for their size. They are an excellent choice for people living in urban or condo settings who must comply with size limits regarding their pets or who have limited space for exercising them - or who simply prefer a lap-sized canine friend. Our micro puppies and dogs are consistently reliable with children - loyal and very affectionate. Quite a few have become emotional support dogs for children and teenagers. This is a testament to rigorous breeding practices that produce reliable, resilient, and capable dogs that are, as the saying goes, "bomb proof."  

Micros should be produced over several generations to ensure that the dog will be  balanced in appearance, without any disproportionate skeletal structure.
